The compilation includes unreleased songs from the era, plus outtakes and early mixes, B-sides. The Soft Bulletin Companion was originally available as a promo-only CD, hand-made by the Lips’ management, and given to media and radio as the original album grew in popularity around its original release. Response from the media for The Soft Bulletin was overwhelming in its praise: The Soft Bulletin is one of the Flaming Lips’ most popular and best-selling albums. The album was the band’s breakthrough moment and featured the hit singles “Race for the Prize” and “Waitin’ for a Superman.”

Now, the resulting live recording is being released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Soft Bulletin. The performance was conducted by the internationally celebrated conductor Andre De Ridder. The Flaming Lips performed the 12-track album in its original sequence with new arrangements accompanied by a 69-piece orchestra and 56-strong chorus.

For the Lips and their fans, perhaps the apex of a magnificent interpretation that will remain as rewarding and emotionally-charged as it was that night in 2016. 1999s The Soft Bulletin topped numerous year-end best-of lists and helped rank the band among the most influential in the world. Transmissions From The Satellite Heart and Clouds Taste Metallic followed. with 1991s Hit To Death In The Future Head. This particular event has been regarded by those in attendance as one of the most awe-inspiring, moving and magical moments of a lifetime. After lauded indie albums, The Flaming Lips debuted on Warner Bros. On 26th May 2016, The Flaming Lips performed their universally acclaimed 1999 album The Soft Bulletin in its entirety with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.
